Where can I get the new contactless travel card?

The new cards can be obtained in all KUTXA branches.

Can they be obtained in savings entities other than KUTXA?

Currently they can only be obtained in KUTXA branches. In the future, they will be available in other savings entities when the other entities are prepared. When this is possible DBUS and the savings entities will inform users.

When are the new travel cards available?

The new cards can be ordered in KUTXA branches. The card will be ready for collection in the KUTXA branches after 3 days.

Is there only one type of travel card?

No, although all the new cards incorporate contactless technology, there are two types of new KUTXA cards:

• Photocards, which entitles users to new fares and discounts for large families, pensioners or young people. These cards are for personal use only and are not transferable.
• Cards without photographs, which entitles users to regular fares only, not to additional discounts or monthly travel passes.

How much do the new cards cost?

It is necessary to pay €8.50 must be paid in the KUTXA branch for the photocard that entitles users to purchase discount travel passes and monthly travel passes.

It is necessary to pay €5.50 must be left in the KUTXA branch for the card without photograph that entitles users to purchase regular travel passes.

What documentation must be presented to obtain the new cards?

You must present your National Identity Card (or passport) in the KUTXA branches to order the card. The card will be ready in 3 days, on collection the card contract must be signed.

We recommend KUTXA clients specify their account number to which travel costs will be charged.

For non-KUTXA clients it will necessary to indicate Name, Surname(s) and National Identity Card no..

You must bring a passport-sized photograph for the new photocards.

Do I need to be a KUTXA client to obtain the new card and benefit from the new discounts?

No. Non-KUTXA clients may purchase the new cards in KUTXA branches and then they pay for top ups using cards from another savings entity. The service coste is 0,50€ for operation.

How can I benefit from the discounts for large families?

To benefit from the discounts for large families, you first have to purchase the new photocard from KUTXA. Each family member who wishes to avail of the benefits must obtain the card.

To apply the discount, each card must be validated in UDALINFO (c/ Ijentea, Telf: 010) for which the following documentation must be presented:

• Original and photocopy of the National Identity Card
• Photocopy of the Large Family Certificate
• New travel card issued by the savings entity.

The date of census registration is also officially checked.

How can I top up the new cards?

The new travel cards can be topped up at any KUTXA ATM in the same way as the current cards. If the user is entitled to discounts and he/she has carried out the procedures specified these will be automatically applied.

How are the new travel cards different to the cards that are currently in use?

All the new KUTXA travel cards are contactless meaning it is not necessary to enter them in the slots of the machine on the bus. The card only has to be passed close to the area marked on the front of the machines. Once accepted, the machine will beep just as the current cards and will inform the user of the remaining credit or the time use remaining of the monthly pass on the screen.

Can the new cards be used in the two machines that are on the bus?

Yes, they can be used in either of the two machines.

Can the new cards be used in the same way as the current contact cards?

Yes, but only in situations of emergency if the contactless mechanism is out of order.

Are the contact cards still valid?

Yes, all current cards are still valid except if they are damaged.

When should I order one of the new cards?

In the event that you wants to benefit from the new large family discounts or the new monthly travel passes. Other users can continue to use their current cards.

When does it compensate an ordinary user without any discounts to purchase the monthly passes?

The unlimited monthly travel pass means that for a user who makes more than 39 regular fare journeys 4 night fare journeys that any additional journey will be free.

For the 50-trip monthly travel pass it would work out cheaper if the user makes more than 32 regular fare journeys and 4 night fare journeys.

There is a big saving if this is compared with the cost of single fares.

When does it compensate a pensioner or someone entitled to the discount fares to purchase a monthly travel pass?

Pensioners or young people already have special discounts therefore the monthly passes are only attractive if they make an exceptionally high number of journeys per month. The unlimited monthly pass would benefit pensioners or young people if they make more than 82 day journeys and 4 night journeys per month.

In the case of the 50-trip monthly travel pass, it would work out cheaper for pensioners and young people if they make more than 68 day journeys and 4 night journeys.

If I contract the new card, do I lose the credit on my existing card?

No, even if you contract the new card, you can still continue to use the old card until the credit is used up or you can continue to top it up in ATMs.

What do I have to do to contract the new Unlimited monthly travel pass or the 50-trip monthly travel pass?

To contract the new monthly travel pass or the new 50-trip monthly travel pass you must purchase the new contactless photocard. You can top up your travel card at any KUTXA ATM where you have the option to purchase the Unlimited monthly travel pass or the 50-trip monthly travel pass.

Can I change lines with the 50-trip monthly travel pass?

Every time you board a bus with the 50-trip monthly travel pass, one journey is discounted, therefore it does not allow line changes.

When does the Unlimited monthly travel pass start and end?

The unlimited monthly travel pass, once purchased in the ATM, is valid from the moment of the purchase until the same day of the following month inclusive.

When does the 50-trip monthly travel pass start and end?

Once purchased in the ATM, the 50-trip monthly travel pass begins to work. The 50-trip travel pass expires when you make journey number 50 or one month after you purchased the pass.

When can I top up the Unlimited monthly travel pass if the current travel pass is still active?

You can contract another monthly bus pass at any time. The card allows you to have Unlimited monthly travel passes with a timeframe of 2 months from the date of purchase.

When can I top up the 50-trip monthly travel pass if the current pass is still active?

You can purchase another 50-trip monthly travel pass when you have only 3 days left on your current pass or 5 or less journeys. The remaining journeys will be accumulated onto the new travel pass up to a maximum of 55 journeys.

If the new card has regular travel pass credit and I top up the monthly travel pass do I lose the credit on the regular travel pass?

No. you do not lose the credit. When the monthly travel pass is no longer valid, the travel pass will be automatically used for each journey until a new monthly travel pass is activated.

Can the new photocard be used by another person? Can the card titleholder use it to pay for another person?

The new travel photocards are personal and non-transferable. This means that the travel card titleholder must be the person who always uses it. The only case when another person can use the card is if he/she accompanies the titleholder. In this case, the companion will be charged the price of a regular travel pass fare.

How will DBus check the cards are used correctly?

DBus has undertaken a special control service on buses with people who will keep watch to ensure cards are used correctly and to prevent fraudulent use.

What action will be taken against those who use other people’s photocards?

DBUS will carry out an extensive control of the correct use of cards with photographs. In the event of use of the card by someone who is not the cardholder, the card will be confiscated and there will be a €60 fine.

Can night services be paid for using the monthly travel passes?

Yes, both Unlimited monthly travel passes and 50-trip monthly travel passes can be used to pay for night services and therefore the saving is even greater.
